Other Markets

Other Industries - Golf ClubsAlthough the Raptor Scientific test and measurement instruments are extremely well known in the aerospace and defense industries, the products also service other markets such as the Medical and Biomechanics, Sporting Goods, Educational Institutions, Automotive, Oil & Gas, Pharmaceutical, Industrial and Fire Testing.

Medical and Biomechanics

Knowing the mass properties of medical devices and human bodies or parts of them is essential to understanding their motion and their reaction when submitted to external forces. Our institutions have been used to test medical equipment from patient tables such as Hologic Horizon DXA Bone Density System, to ingestible diagnostic instruments as well as mannequins-bodies and limbs-and all of the equipment that they carry or that carry them: helmets, respiratory masks, ejection seats, aircraft fixed seats, etc.

  • Our smaller combined mass properties instruments (KSR330) are used to determine the center of gravity and moment of inertia of small parts or entire bodies. The most common use is testing helmets and mannequins.
  • We also make instruments that measure moment of inertia (XR series), center of gravity (SE8913 series), and weight and CG combined (SE90168 series).
  • Our larger instruments (KSR1320) are used to test heavier items, such as ejection seats with or without a mannequin installed.

Sporting Goods

Raptor Scientific offers the widest range of United States Golf Association-approved mass properties solutions to the golf industry. Mass properties instruments are designed to accurately determine the mass, center of gravity, and inertia properties of objects. In the golf industry, these instruments can play a crucial role in optimizing the performance of golf clubs and enhancing the overall playing experience. Mass properties instruments are used in club design manufacturing, research and development, and quality control and compliance. Customers include the USGA, Ping, and Callaway.

Educational Institutions

Mass properties instruments, calibration systems, and thermal instruments, such as heat flux sensors and thermocouples, can support educational research institutions in their efforts to support the space and defense markets in several ways including the designing and testing of spacecraft, satellites, and defense systems. The instruments also support performance analysis, material testing, reliability testing, and training and education. Customers include MIT and Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory.

Automotive

Mass properties instruments support the automotive industry by aiding in the design and development of vehicles, assessing performance and safety, optimizing fuel efficiency and emissions, enabling material selection and testing, facilitating manufacturing and quality control, and optimizing vehicle dynamics and performance. These instruments play a crucial role in ensuring that vehicles meet the desired standards of performance, safety, and efficiency in the automotive industry. Customers include Goodyear and the Department of Transportation.

Oil and Gas

By utilizing pressure, temperature, and torque calibrators, the oil and gas industry can maintain the highest levels of safety, reliability, and efficiency in their operations. These calibrators help ensure accurate measurement and control of pressure, temperature, and torque, thus minimizing the risk of equipment failure, optimizing performance, and reducing downtime. The instruments are used to calibrate and validate pressure gauges, sensors, and transmitters, ensuring that they provide accurate readings. Accurate temperature measurement is critical for monitoring and controlling various processes, including refining, storage, and transportation, and torque calibrators ensure that torque readings are reliable, preventing under or over-tightening of critical components.

Industrial and Fire Testing

Heat flux sensors, thermocouples, and infrared radiometers contribute to the safety, efficiency, and quality control in the industrial and fire testing industries. They enable accurate temperature measurement, heat flow analysis, and assessment of material performance under different thermal conditions. This information helps in optimizing processes, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and enhancing overall productivity and reliability. Customers include Underwriters Laboratory and Deatak.

Pharmaceutical

By utilizing pressure, temperature, and torque calibrators, the pharmaceutical industry can ensure compliance with regulatory standards, maintain product quality, and enhance patient safety. These calibrators help to monitor and control critical parameters, ensuring accurate measurement and precise control, which are essential for pharmaceutical manufacturing processes. Accurate pressure measurement is critical in pharmaceutical manufacturing, especially in processes such as filtration, sterilization, and formulation. Temperature-sensitive materials, such as drugs and vaccines, require precise temperature control during manufacturing, storage, and transportation. Accurate torque measurement ensures proper sealing, prevents leaks, and maintains the integrity of pharmaceutical products.
